WebEye VR wants to be the first VR Webcam on the world, but the developers from Slovenia need the help from backers on Kickstarter.
What is WebEye VR?
Two cameras in one casing, with a resolution of 1920×1080 and a refresh rate of 30 frames per second and a FOV of 160°. Thats not a full 360°, but its more about live-chat via a webcam. This live-chat will be in 3D, this way it will look nice on HMD like the supported Google Cardboard, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Gear Vr.
You can place it wherever you want, because it is mounted on tripod.
It will be connected via two usb ports, but in the future it will only use one USB 3.0 port.
At the moment the content will be streamed on a WebRTC based Streaming platform. To view it with a rift, the newest firefox nightly build is needed.
The following video gives you a short impression on how it looks as of now :
WebEye VR on Kickstarter
The campaign started only short while ago, therefore the backed amount is fairly small.
It has a hefty price tag of 250$ and will be sent out to backers on April 2016, so in time with the HMD`s from Oculus and HTC.
We think its a innovative idea but have hoped for a 360° webcam.
The way it is, its more a 3D-Webcam with a high FOV. Either way its always great seeing new VR Devices. What do you guys think?
